The Uniform EMS Ordinance designates the medical control board, known as the Emergency Physicians Advisory Board (EPAB), to provide medical direction and oversight for the EMS system. This board is composed of a medical director of each hospital emergency department that is located within the service area and five licensed physicians with active specialties that are of benefit for developing standards for emergency pre-hospital care.  One of the many responsibilities the ordinance outlines for EPAB is to issue, suspend, revoke or reniew permits for the delivery of first responder services.
